Body Language Lexicon

If you've read my posts about Dialogue Mechanics, Beats, and the word "said", you'll know that I consider body language to be of paramount importance in fiction writing.  One of the things I recommend all writers do is keep a list of beats (bits of body language) they observe in their daily life, either in a note-taking app like Google Keep or Evernote, or in an actual physical notebook.  Or on a wadded up cocktail napkin.  Whatever.

Point is, it's good to have a list of beats to draw on when you're in the blood and guys of the writing process.  The hope is that you'll collect some truly evocative, character-defining tidbits to use, but the fact is some body language is fairly universal.  Collected here, for your perusal and use, is every common piece of body language I can think of.  I'm continually adding to this list, so expect periodic updates, and please feel free to post any additions in the comments!
